General

Published by the Shrewsbury and Mid-Shropshire Group of the Ramblers, this popular book is in full colour with easy to follow directions and good maps. The 20 walks include features of architectural, historical or geological interest.

The unique knowledge of walk leaders has been drawn upon to provide walks from 2 to 6 miles with special features to be enjoyed along the way. The majority of them are within a 10 mile radius of Shrewsbury and some start from the town itself. At least 15 have panoramic views – many of which can be enjoyed without the pain of climbing hills! these are rambles for non-ramblers!

Families can marvel at huge fossilised tree trunks, the oldest engineered road, one of the first meeting places of Parliament, the world's first iron-framed building and the oldest cast-iron bridge still open to wheeled traffic. they can also walk in the footsteps of famous people and choose from Charles Darwin, poet Wilfred Owen, or novelist Mary Webb. there are several walks along the Severn plus one for good measure along the old river bed. If you prefer old railway tracks there are some encounters with the Potts line.
