CloudTec System

The CloudTec System from On helps you enjoy a light running sensation and stay away from pain and injuries. It works when highly adaptive rubber elements cushion both vertical and horizontal forces for a soft landing. Once on the ground the clouds lock firm to provide a solid foundation for a natural and powerful takeoff. The nature of the technology allows you to move freely as if barefoot, but protected from the shock of landing on a hard surface. This means less impact, shorter ground contact time and good running form for a swift takeoff. Run more naturally with comfort, speed and no adaption time.

Cirrus™ powered by 3M

Cirrus combines almost all key benefits of natural down and synthetic fillings while avoiding their limitations. Technical water-resistant fibres are expanded into a 'down-like' structure to create a cloud of warmth. It has been extensively tested in development to deliver the same warmth for its weight as 600 fill power duck down. Unlike other synthetic insulation it is able to loft freely in order to trap warmth, it compresses well and is robust and durable.

Cocona®

DAC reverse combi

The special characteristic of the aluminium poles is the use of variable diameter sections that slot seamlessly inside one another.  The middle (roof) section of the pole has a diameter of 11.1mm, in order to withstand the forces that occur in the roof area of the tent. This tapers to 9.5mm towards the end of the pole where it approaches the groundsheet. The 7001 T6 aluminium alloy used provides the optimum blend of strength and flexibility. When compared to classic dome tents, the poles have much wider radius and a more acute angle at the point where they meet the ground.  This helps them to remain flexible during strong winds and gales, gives them better shape recovery and delivers greater strength in the roof section of the tent.

Denier

Measure of the density of a fabric. A higher denier (D) fabric will tend to be more robust but also heavier.

Goretex Surround

Gore-Tex® shoes engineered with Surround® product technology offer 360 degree climate comfort for your feet. They are highly breathable all-around without compromising on durable waterproof protection. Your feet stay dry and comfortable even in warmer conditions.

Gait

Running gait refers to the way your foot moves as it hits the ground, and gait types fall into three broad categories
Neutral - The foot strikes the ground, flexing and moving to absorb impact but without excessive rolling. Shoes for neutral runners tend to offer cushioning but don't need to provide as much support as other types, because the foot does this for itself.

Over-Pronation - Pronation is the flattening out of the arch and inward rolling of the foot. Almost all feet do this to an extent to take the impact shock out of landing, but with over-pronation they roll and flatten excessively. This extra movement can cause various stresses and strains on the body so running shoes for over-pronators help to "prop-up" the foot as well as cushioning it.
Under-Pronation or Supination - This is when the foot doesn't flatten and roll enough to absorb shock, which is quite rare. A supinating foot therefore benefits from a shoe with good cushioning and which doesn't restrict pronating movements. Because supination is rare, so are supination-specific shoes, but the cushioning and flex of many neutral shoes often work well for supinators.

Experienced runners will probably know their way around their own feet but, if you're not sure, you can get your gait analysed and find out what type of shoes will work best for you.

Gore-Tex®

The benchmark for performance outerwear for decades, Gore-Tex technology refers to the use of a special microporous membrane (ePTFE), bonded to fabrics to make them durably waterproof, but still breathable. A waterproof, breathable membrane full of microscopic holes, big enough to let moisture vapour escape but too small to allow liquid water through. This is then bonded to a layer of fabric, which is in turn treated with a DWR to avoid the fibres themselves getting waterlogged.

Gore-Tex® Active

Gore® C-Knit™

Gore's C-Knit backer technology optimises comfort while providing durable, waterproof and windproof protection. The reliable and proven bi-component Gore-Tex membrane system is bonded to an extremely thin, dense yet lightweight circular knit to form a patent-pending laminate. Weighing up to 10% less than previous three-layer Gore-Tex fabric, this laminate also improves breathability by as much as 15% in a less bulky, more robust three-layer construction. The smooth texture of the knit backing is soft to the touch, and makes the garment easier to slide on and off over other layers.

Gore Grip Technology

Gore Grip Technology offers the feel of direct grip and high tactility. The innovative combination of these characteristics has been made possible by a special layered construction which attaches normally loose layers of the glove to each other, preventing movement between them. They thus provide optimum tactility and better dexterity for a sure grip. This makes it easier to handle your ski poles, zips and goggles.

MicroGuard

A synthetic multi-denier insulation material originally designed for use in sleeping bags and now incorporated into Jack Wolfskin's winter clothing. It delivers optimum insulation performance at a low weight. The thickness of the Microguard insulation depends on the activity profile of the jacket. The insulation consists of two components: Micro stands for the fine, highly compressible, high insulation fibres and GUARD for the stabilising spiral fibre layer which guarantees durability and loft.

Microguard Maxloft

In addition to the micro and spiral fibres, Microguard Maxloft has a high percentage of hollow fibres, which gives it superior lofting capability and exceptionally high insulation performance. The feel of this synthetic insulation material is comparable to that of down. Microguard Maxloft in high basis weights (e.g. 180 g/m²) is an excellent alternative to a natural down fill in all but extremely cold temperatures and when there is a high probability of rain.

Microguard Silver

The reverse side of Microguard Silver has an additional layer of thin fibre sheet with metallic particles. These ensure that the material warms up more quickly and reflects back a portion of the heat generated by the body. The material is used, for instance, in Jack Wolfskin down jackets to protect the down from moisture, and in areas where pressure on the down would impair the insulation, such as under the rucksack straps.

Memory Foam System (MFS)

The use of a Memory Foam System allows footwear to fit feet better. A specially developed combination of foams is used to pad the upper. Once warmed by body heat, the foam changes shape to exactly match the shape of the foot.

Micro-Chamois

A brushed, wicking fabric used by Mountain Hardwear as a lining. The texture is similar to microfleece but the fabric is much thinner, as it's used for wicking rather than insulation.

MeCo®

Fibre using ethically sourced Merino wool blended with recycled Cocona yarns. Merino is a superfine, no-itch, antibacterial wool; Cocona uses recycled polyester combined with activated carbon derived from reclaimed coconut husks, creating a fast-drying, wicking fibre with excellent odour resistance. This mix produces a high performance fabric that combines the very best features and benefits found in wool and polyester and enhances it with activated carbon, bringing you warmth and softness as well as wicking and fast drying properties.

Memory Foam

Memory foam is polyurethane with additional chemicals increasing its viscosity and density. Higher-density memory foam softens in reaction to body heat. A lower-density memory foam is pressure-sensitive and moulds quickly to the shape of a body pressing against it, but returns to its original shape afterwards. Memory foam is often used in walking boots for comfort and support, as the foam moulds to your foot shape.

Merino wool

A superfine, warm, non-itch wool that is capable of absorbing and releasing up to ten times more moisture than synthetic fibres. Excellent for expedition use as it resists body odours. Merino wool is so soft and smooth that it needs to be felt to be believed. Used by brands such as Icebreaker and Smartwool.

Microban® Zinc

An environmentally friendly zinc technology that fights the growth of odour causing bacteria and fungus. Built in anti-microbial product protection provides continuous odour control that won't wash off or wear away.

PreCip®

PreCip technology offers the lightest, most compressible, technical, waterproof and breathable rainwear. The key to PreCip is its barrier technology: a microporous polyurethane that is impregnated with silicon dioxide particles. These particles create small, numerous, very consistent holes that allow the barrier to pass small water vapour molecules but not the bigger liquid ones. This keeps the rain out while letting your sweat vapour work its way outside, away from your body, to keep you dry from the inside as well as from the outside.

Responsible Down Standard (R.D.S)

The Responsible Down Standard ensures that down and feathers come from ducks and geese that have been treated well. This means enabling them to live healthy lives, express innate behaviors, and not suffer from pain, fear or distress. The standard also follows the chain of custody from farm to product, so consumers can be confident that the down and feathers in the products they choose are truly RDS.

RollinGate System (RGS)

Vibram's RollinGait System (RGS) is an innovative midsole and sole combination that helps the natural roll of the foot, integrating form and flexibility. It has been specially developed to optimise energy output during downhill running and walking.
When the foot first hits the ground it is usually with the heel, which is - at that point - the center of pressure. Once the heel has made contact with the ground, the pressure moves towards the metatarsus and then to the toes. The curved shape of the RGS's sole supports the natural movement of the foot whenever it experiences impact with the ground.

Responsible Down Standard

The Responsible Down Standard (RDS) aims to ensure that down and feathers come from animals that have not been subjected to any unnecessary harm. The standard is used to reward and influence the down and feather industry to incentivize practices that respect the humane treatment of ducks and geese. The standard also provides companies and consumers with a tool to know what is in their products and to make accurate claims.
