BBC Children in Need: Helping Young People Get Outdoors

We’re proud to be an official partner of BBC Children in Need 2019, helping to change the lives of disadvantaged children and young people across the UK. We wanted to feature just some of the many fantastic projects that BBC Children in Need sponsor, helping young people to get outdoors all over the country.

Manchester Didbury: Pegasus Riding for the Disabled Association

This project will offer riding opportunities for disabled children and young people in Stockport. These sessions will lead to increased muscular development and fitness, confidence and self-belief and positive relationships.

London Kings Cross: Greenhouse Sports

This sports programme is for children and young people in inner London, who are living with a disability or long term illness.  Participation will help develop their confidence, physical literacy and social skills.

Exeter: Action East Devon

This project will support children and young people who are experiencing poor mental health through group work and activities. Taking part in the sessions will help to increase self-esteem and improve their emotional resilience.

Birmingham: Ecobirmingham

This project will work with children and young people with ASD, Dyspraxia or hypermobility to learn to ride a bike. The project aims to raise expections of life, increase physical activity and improve life skills.

Wrexham: Groundwork North Wales

This project will provide a life-skill programme for looked-after young people and those from disadvantaged backgrounds.  They will improve their wellbeing, increase their social skills, and improve their attitudes to achievement.

Northern Ireland: Focus on Family

Through this nature-based outdoor programme, children and young people affected by socio-economic disadvantage will experience fun interactive activities, learn life skills, improve physical health and wellbeing, and develop friendships.

Scotland: Focus Youth Project

This project will run accredited outdoor activities to build the confidence and self-esteem of young people affected by living in an area of low income and deprivation. Activities include skiing, rock climbing, cycling, sailing and first aid training.
