Pub Walks With The Ramblers
Nothing beats a good pub stop to refuel at the end of walk. With that in mind we asked our partners at the Ramblers to share some of their favourites, many of which feature CAMRA (the Campaign for Real Ale) pubs enroute!

Ludlow, Shropshire
Length: 1.5 miles Walking Time: 45 minutes Difficulty: Easy
Starting point: Ludlow, SY8 1AY
Ludlow was once described as the loveliest town in England by the late Poet Laureate, Sir John Betjeman, and this still holds true. This walk takes in the picturesque medieval castle and many of the town’s historic buildings. You’ll be spoilt for choice with pubs on this route, with the Railway Shed and the Queens to choose from.

Boscastle, Cornwall
Length: 1.6 miles Walking Time: 1 hour Difficulty: Leisurely
Starting point: YHA Boscastle
This short circular walk explores the coastal scenery of Boscastle. Enjoy a stretch along the South West Coast Path and stop to admire the impressive Pentargon Waterfall. You’ll pass The Cobweb Inn, a tall old pub over five storeys with an interesting 350 year history.

Blackheath And Greenwich, London
Length: 3.5 miles Walking Time: 1 hour 45 mintues Difficulty: Easy
Starting point: Lewisham national rail and DLR station
This walk showcases a truly beautiful area of London at its very best and is guaranteed to sweep you up in its past. Enjoy a stroll around Blackheath Village, head through Greenwich Park and past many of Greenwich’s most famous sites. Take time to visit the Hare & Billet in Blackheath, which overlooks the heath.

Sheringham, Norfolk
Length: 2.8 miles Walking Time: 1 hour 30 mintues Difficulty: Easy
Starting Point: Sheringham YHA
Sheringham is one of Norfolk’s most charming coastal towns. This short circular walk follows the coast east over Beeston Bump, returning inland via the pretty ruins of Beeston Priory and across Beeston Common. Stop off at The Lobster, perfect for a Boxing Day pint with its open fires. Children and dogs are welcome in the pub.

Streatley, Berkshire
Length: 1.5 miles Walking Time: 1 hour Difficulty: Leisurely
Starting point: Streatley YHA
This short walk starts out with a steep climb through some woods and brings you back via the incredible viewpoint of Lardon Chase, which overlooks the Goring Gap. Make time to stop at The Bull to enjoy its cosy interior and four changing beers.

Cardiff Bay, South Wales
Length: 5 miles Walking Time: 2 hours Difficulty: Easy
Starting point: Cardiff Central railway station
This linear walk heads along the Taff and across Cardiff Bay on the barrage to finish in Penarth. The route passes many landmarks and treats you to superb views across the Bristol Channel towards Somerset. The Railway Hotel marks the end of the route, the perfect place to stop for a warming drink.

Sheffield, South Yorkshire
Length: 2.8 miles Walking Time: 1 hour Difficulty: Easy
Starting point: Sheffield Cathedral
Sheffield is well-known for its steel and manufacturing and this walk gives you a glimpse into the city’s industrial heritage. Starting at the cathedral, you’ll head along the River Don to Kelham Island before looping back on quieter woodland paths with pretty views of the city. There are plenty of pubs along this route, including the original Sheffield real ale freehouse the The Fat Cat and CAMRA’s National Pub of the Year 2008 and 2009, the Kelham Island Tavern.

Derby, Derbyshire
Length: 3.3 miles Walking Time: 2 hours Difficulty: Easy
Starting point: Market Place, Derby
This route takes you on a stroll through Derby’s industrial past as you walk along the River Derwent passing the historic mills lining its banks to Darley Abbey. You’ll also visit some of the city’s beautiful green spaces, including Silk Mill Park. Stop for a drink in the Silk Mill Cider & Ale House, which was built in 1928 to replace an older pub.

Keswick, Cumbria
Length: 2.3 miles Walking Time: 1 hour 10 minutes Difficulty: Easy
Starting point: Keswick Youth Hostel
From the centre of popular Keswick you’ll head up through Castlehead Wood to a wonderful viewpoint over Derwent Water and the surrounding fells. The route heads down to the lakeshore and returns across Crow Park to the market square. You’ll pass the Dog and Gun, the Wainwright and the Magnolia Belgian Beer Bar and Bistro along the way.
